    I’m wowed by the way Farhadi drew connections between a seminal 1940s American play and a jarring event in 21st century Iran. Side by side - thanks to the story within a story technique - Emad and Rana flicked between resonant, not so dated characters and the reflections they casted on their present selves with poignancy. As for the immense subtlety that would occasionally consume the plot, I felt the need to do my own research outside of the film…

    Me searching “Cinderella” on Letterboxd to review it and seeing 10+ options to pick from speaks volumes for the unnecessary nature of this film. Did we need another Cinderella story, ESPECIALLY in film form? No. Was it a decent watch during lockdown? Yes.
