For several years, at least through 2015, the late, Academy Award-winning director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Stop Making Sense) personally curated his own film series at the Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, N.Y. He dubbed the series "Rarely Seen Cinema," and sometimes even led post-screening discussions. While some of the movies shown were pretty well known (Children of Men, The Elephant Man), most were indeed deep cuts.
Of note: Demme's favorite "obscure" filmmaker appears to have been Alain Resnais. Five of the French director's films were screened.
