this film carries a near-unbearable weight. there's just something emotionally ruinative about these spluttered-out, inconclusive, imperfect last impressions, rendered again and again through different people whether in person or via digital mirror-capture. i didn't cry but i felt an emptiness that was simultaneously sated nonetheless. ferrara finally reaches the apexes of formal innovation and emotional hold (no brechtian airbags here, everything hurts!) that largely eluded me in the films of his i have from 3-3.5 stars having not thought much of but accepted as Good Movies.
