When you’re sitting in the theatre thinking that you need to update your Letterboxd favourites because the film you’re watching has unquestionably made that list, you know it’s something special. That’s how I felt about this one since it was absolutely mindblowing in the best way! I would say “more movies like this, please!” but the truth is, Everything Everywhere All At Once being so unlike anything else is what makes it such a standout. With trippy visuals, a wildly original script, and phenomenal performances, Daniels have crafted such a wonderfully bizarre masterpiece that’s one of the most funny, profound, and memorable films I’ve ever seen.

While this one’s a rewatch, I got to see it on the big screen this time for a special screening as part of Deaf Awareness Week! I honestly enjoy it even more than the first film, especially with the way some of the sequences are edited together and how the character of Regan really comes into her own.

This has the very specific vibe of being the kind of movie that’s reminiscent of teen rom-coms I’d watch at a sleepover in the 2000s, except it’s super queer! Crush is genuinely sweet and funny, and in many ways feels like a breath of fresh air when it comes to sapphic media. Sure, it’s a little cliché at times, but it’s also very affirming of queer sexuality and I’m glad it exists, especially for young sapphics trying to navigate their own complicated feelings.

Kind of love how this operates more like a crime thriller with more grounded detective elements as opposed to what you’d conventionally expect from a Batman movie! It takes some intriguing turns for sure with great performances across the board, and the chemistry between the leads is INSANE.
