This is some next level horror flick.
BEYOND THE HILLS never aims to discredit a Romanian Orthodox monastery’s beliefs, rather shines a light on poor, innocent, mostly orphaned women who don’t have anything to turn to other than religion. The sense of belonging turns them into a conventional group which does what the Father dictates, does everything in perfect synchronization it’s downright scary, and loses the ability to think nor decide on their own. Chilling to watch, moreso because it’s based on true events.
Only gripe is it could’ve been shorter, but the third act makes up for some repetitive, meandering scenes.
