Malignant ★★★½

Giallo madness infused and integrated into Wan's excessively digital horror. It's a film that doesn't hold back, doubling down on almost everything from the campy melodrama and horror to the nonsensical decisions and story developments, but that's probably what makes this Malignant so special; Wan's not doing anything masterful here but he's not trying to make another boring run-of-the-mill horror again - this is unique and refreshing. I mean, where do you find gore and comedy mixing this perfectly in mainstream horror cinema? Always great to see my Malaysian filmmakers shine like this.
