One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

It’s fascinating to me that the novel was released over 10 years before the film because the story feels so right for 1975. The Man (capital T, capital M) had seemingly won by then. The individualism and counter-culture of the previous decade were on life support. The country needed McMurphy for that proverbial shot in the arm.

    It’s a miracle movie.

It’s downright miraculous that Richard Kelly went this hard with so much random stuff and mashed it together and made it work as well as DONNIE DARKO does. Infinitely fun to discuss and debate and unpack. Funny and charming as much as it is creative and confounding.

Ultimately, after so many viewings of both versions, I prefer the original theatrical cut.
