Zach Gilbert’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Trial of the Chicago 7 is THE movie of 2020, period. Absolutely absurd how well this meets the current cultural moment. Would almost say it’s too “on-the-nose” had it not been in development for TEN years. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Electrifying editing, an engrossing ensemble, and one of Sorkin’s sharpest scripts. An engaging and enraging cinematic experience in equal measure.
For my money, Sacha Baron Cohen is the star standout. He brilliantly handles both Hoffman’s sarcasm and his political savviness simultaneously, and his scene in court is a STUNNER.
Can’t wait to hear his name called on Oscar nomination morning 🥳
