Genius film! It’s excellent satire remains both funny and relevant to this day. Definitely one of Kubrick’s best.
I’m not sure if it was because I was heavily intoxicated for my viewing or due to the current quarantine situation, but I found myself truly enthralled by Polanski’s unsettling and claustrophobic atmosphere. Granted, the film starts off slow and has its moments of lulls, but overall it is an interesting look at the nightmarish qualities of apartment dwelling.
It may not be the same quality of artistry as 2001, but it’s enjoyable in its own right. What it lacks in innovation and scale is [mostly] made up for with a more satisfying narrative. Considering what a disadvantage the film had by following what’s considered to be Kubrick’s masterpiece, this wasn’t half bad.
