Less complex, campy copy of the original. If you know the magistral original you can't help be find the laughter in the audience strange. But..........Denis Menochet is fantastic when and if you forget the Fassbinder nods. That's it's problem....I think I would find it a better film if I hadn't seen the original.

Damnation 1988
A brilliant exercise for what will follow. Existential film noir, cinematography which is as if you are looking at, experiencing, a minimal artwork. The camera walking around the object transforming the perspectief and object, revealing its reality and weight but also making the viewer aware of the illusion they just "saw". Many scenes that are as beautiful, rich and unique as you find in Tarr's later masterpieces. Certainly the most underrated director in cinema. Cinematically more interesting than Tarkovsky. Brilliant. Really !!!!

The Shining 1980
Watching this film again you realize that Kubrick isn't much of a "storyteller" but more someone who is interested in creating a relentless atmosphere. Had to think of his last work "Eyes Wide Shut" that in hindsight was better and certainly underrated.
You also see that Jack Nicholson's "acting" style seems more and more ridiculous now. This is "over the top" taken to the extreme. More funny than anything to believe and take seriously.
