o kay, a rare rating from me, for what might actually be a perfect movie! i think this is the best-acted movie i've ever fucking seen. i loved everything about it, even all the really really heartbreaking hard to watch parts. i love how gentle the camera was with the characters too, that was pretty neat. it didn't feel like very "dramatic" camerawork. really cool. super well paced and engrossing too, a pretty long film but did not feel like it at all.
The best thing I can say about this movie is that it clearly needed to exist for the conjuring to happen. So much of this feels like ideas that get perfected and expanded on in that much better movie.
Some other really good and interesting ideas, but it's really dragged down by awful, cheap camera work and editing, and a really terrible final act that feels more like a children's spooky movie than anything as meaty as the substantial build up would lead you to believe.
I was pretty into this. It was really stressful and I never really knew what to expect. Super unique concept and the first half of the movie had a ton of awesome style (the montage scene is absolutely amazing). The movie is hilarious and a lot of fun, and also manages to be really disturbing and weird. There's one moment where the surround sound freaked me out so bad my friends starting cracking up at me in the theater bc…
