When I originally watched this in high school my teacher would often declare that a scene was boring and start fast forwarding. It's really a pity, cause the scenes that were skipped are some of the most beautiful and atmospheric of the film.
Back when this played at MIFF I was warned not to see it by many - "I witnessed over 100 walkouts!" "It's just a 2 hour long jeans commercial!" - but I decided I'd give it a shot outside of the hectic film festival atmosphere, hoping I'd find something worthwhile in it. I didn't.
I think the scenes of character interaction I did enjoy only worked because I liked the actors. If they'd been unknowns I wouldn't have cared. But…
