  • We're All Going to the World's Fair

We're All Going to the World's Fair 2021

    alfie.

    ★★★ Watched by alfie. 18 May 2022

What is the World’s Fair? The hypnotic underbelly of the internet? The pandemic of online isolation sucking more and more lonely souls in? The abyss of hostile mental health mental health issues which reside at the bottom of a slippery slope? All of the above?

The question is really just at the tip of Jane Schoenbrun’s semi-screenlife iceberg, a film that contains a generous bundle of ambitious, intelligent ideas but can’t quite seem to know what to do with them.…

Marius de Vries was a really interesting choice of composer. Imagine fitting this in between your work with Madonna, Björk, Bowie and Mel C.

    ★★★★★ Rewatched by Cara 15 May 2022

At times it’s kinda schlocky but Equilibrium genuinely has some of the most exquisite film techniques (editing, lighting, cinematography etc.), tailoring/costuming, set decoration & choreography I have ever seen. And then there’s Christian Bale taking this kinda silly role so so seriously while looking the best anyone has ever looked on screen ever… wow.
