Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage

Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage ★½

An incoherent mess. Desperately wants to make all the awful things that happened much more “important” that they actually were. They bring up irrelevant things like columbine, y2k, napster, etc and try to weave them into some all encompassing narrative about late 90s society. It’s bullshit and it doesn’t work.

A low point is a good ten minutes lamenting the objectification of women while documenting it in a little too much detail. I don’t have a problem with tits on HBO or anywhere else, but when it’s done this hypocritically it makes me wanna puke.

A competent documentary could have built a damning case against the organizers of Woodstock 99. Instead we got whatever this was followed by a stealth advertisement for coachellla. Not cool.
