"Well, there goes the neighborhood."
Morally confused at best, completely unconscionable at worst, but if this delivered anywhere close to an adequate amount of goods in the action dept it might be a new classic despite that. Instead it mostly gets by on the charm of the leads and supporting cast in the general Fred Williamson tradition - he's listed on IMDb as an uncredited co-director, and it feels more like a Hammer joint than Larry Cohen. But what a cast! Williamson, Jim Brown, Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Richard Roundtree, Paul Winfield, Charles Napier ... they don't need any of my accolades, so I'll give a shoutout to Dru Down instead. He plays the sub-heavy Kayo doing his best Ice Cube impression, and he's the only antagonist who really holds his own against Williamson and co.
