The Look of Silence

The Look of Silence ★★★★★

"You asked!"

Loses the meta-cinematic hook of its companion film, but may be even more powerful in its blunt emotional simplicity (even as the perpetrators of almost 50-year-old violence try to tell others and themselves that the situation is too complicated even to think about). The real theme here is forgiveness, not worthwhile because the wrongdoer deserves it or is even aware of it, but because of its spiritual value to the one that was wronged.
