I think its greatest crime is that ultimately it's not actually about anything.
It's too many themes and ideas mushed into a grey goop of "this is a real film not a comic book movie"
I think in relation to all the pre-release stuff it ultimately coming out frustratingly fence walky, could be dangerous as it leaves a vacuum for you to fill in what you need it to mean.
I don't think Philips actively wanted to glamorise it but ultimately his naivety as a filmmaker and also a burning desire to make something "worthy" has unfortunately meant it could be read dangerously.
