    The Amazing Spider-Man 2

“We have to be greater than what we suffer.” ~ Am emotional tale about Peter in the world of Spider-Man. half-baked mystery, good action+romance. Jaime Foxx’s Electro is intriguing, more in the style of his power than his characterization. Harry’s GG is weak af. Movie is overstuffed with plot, but the Spidey action sequences are some of the best of all of em. The legacy of Garfield’s take on the character is that he’s a great Spider-Man, and an overpowered…

    The Amazing Spider-Man

“Those things send us down a road… they make us who we are.” ~ Garfield’s suave Peter Parker makes for a more intelligent iteration of the hero — and a better snark in the suit. Sheen’s uncle Ben is (was 😭) pretty good. Lizard is a terrifying physical presence, but not enough heart to Connor’s fall into lizard-based villainy… Best part of the film is probably the dynamic between the characters of Gwen and Peter, and the clear chemistry between the quite pretty actors 😍

    Spider-Man 3

“It’s the choices that make us who we are.” ~ The culmination of Peter and MJ’s love story, the Osborn dynasty’s revenge x redemption, more tragic villainy from men on the edge. Spider-Man 3 is cool because we get see vengeance, and shadow goop, and a guy get turned into sand. … Raimi’s trilogy are all part-time monster movies. Observe horrifying transformation scenes, purposeful madness, tragic ironies forging perfect foils to Spider-Man’s richly chaotic arc. Goblin. Doc. Goblin Jr. Sandman.…

  • Eternals

“We're Eternals. We came here seven thousand years ago, to protect humans from the Deviants.” ~ Visually interesting. Some strong character moments and comedy. Story full of exposition for necessary backgrounding, and jarring asides, time jumps. Scale of the conflict - and the need to connect it to any already busy universe - means most won’t care. But we love Karun, folks.

    Spider-Man 2

“It’s wrong to only be half-alive.” ~ A story about a man driven mad by his own ambitions, by the mere sight of power. Like every Spidey villain, Otto Ocktavius wants to build a better life, a better world - but at the cost of potentially destroying it, and himself, in the process. Spidey 2 is all about identity, about the soul of the choice of who we are. You can’t do anything without committing to it; but going all in could mean losing everything, even yourself. *Dark night of the soul* ish for Spidey and MJ both.

  • Spider-Man

“Because you feel stronger and weaker at the same time…” ~ An adventure tale about love and courage and power. Spidey and Goblin are the manifestations of human good and evil. Parker and Osborn’s ego and id duel for control of the newfound abilities they wield. Dafoe’s daemonic performance is GOAT’ed. Great music, pacing, storytelling. A simply enjoyable picture. Peter and MJ’s fraught love story begins, with alter ego Spidey’s swag as the heart of his heroics and romance.

  • Tombstone

“Oh make no mistake. It’s not revenge he’s after. It’s a reckonin’…” ~ Who doesn’t love Wyatt and Doc? A heroic Western tale about guns and blood, brotherhood and the savage necessities of a harsh world still being born. Killers stride over the land *looking.* For an escape, or their very souls. For life itself. In a lawless land, the only true morals are bullets and history is written by the last man standing. With matters of art, and of…

    Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

An array of miserable meta realities await you, no matter the choice.

    No Time to Die

Good action-packed finale for Craig. I enjoyed it. His Bond run was all about how much damage a man can take before he gives in to his humanity.

  • Waking Life

    Waking Life

”As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle, being swept along is no longer enough.”

A dream of a movie, full of philosophical exposition and drawn out realizations about life, choice and meaning. A picture for me. Impossible to understand everything it’s about in one go and you have to be in the mood, but it’s artful cinema no doubt about it.

    The Green Knight

A movie about how medieval times were all about Games.

  • Another Round

    Another Round

“Have I become boring?” ~ What a movie! A tale about a man returning to life. An alcoholic experiment magnifies the fading fire, burning an urgency into the mix of four men’s tedious lives — while it also makes them reckless, forgetful, obnoxious. All things that being drunk can and will do, happen. It is a transformative substance, for better or worse. For the characters, in the chaos and emotions come clarity on what is important in life. Words are…
