Zach Owens’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's clear just how inspired director Barry Jenkins was by the films of Wong Kar Wai. You can see their influence all over this beautifully crafted film. It plays like a mixture of WKW's Happy Together and Days of Being Wild, but transported from Hong Kong to Miami.
And while it borrows from WKW's choice of music, his visual style and some of his themes, it also adds a very poignant layer that truly makes this film stand out on its own. As a lover of WKW's films, I couldn't be more excited to see where Barry Jenkins takes his very similar sense of style in the future.
