    One of the most perfect and impacting films of all time. It manages to magically be unflamboyant and enthralling, loose and yet dense, simple and richly detailed at the same time.

    It's amazing how Nien-Jen Wu has used a similar style of other filmmakers he worked with, Hsiao-hsien Hou and Edward Yang, and perhaps surpassed them on his first try. Nien-Jen uses long takes for the most part, but a shot never sits on the screen longer than it needs…
