TERRIFIER ist ein stumpfer oldschool Schnetzler, dem es einzig und allein darum geht, seine Kills blutig in Szene zu setzen. Und die können sich tatsächlich sehen lassen! Die Sägeszene war wahrscheinlich mein Favorit, und man bekommt hier in ordentlicher Frequenz kleine und große Gemeinheiten serviert, die menschlichen Körpern angetan werden. Dabei nimmt sich der Film zwar ernst und erzeugt eine gewisse Spannung, aber letztenendes kann man wegen der Übertriebenheit auf der einen und der Dummheit auf der anderen Seite als Horror-Fan viel Spaß damit haben.

Und ja, dumm ist TERRIFIER. Sehr. Dass man IMMER WIEDER einmal auf den Killer schlägt oder sticht, um dann (am besten noch ohne die Waffe) davonzulaufen, wird irgendwann selbst in einem Film, der offensichtlich keine hohen Ansprüche hat, anstrengend. Außerdem sieht das ganze durch das geringe Budget (abseits der Gore-Effekte) nicht sonderlich hochwertig aus. Man muss also mit Abstrichen leben können. Völlig austauschbar sind die meisten Charaktere auch.

Bis auf Art. Art ist nach langer Zeit tatsächlich mal wieder ein Horrrofilm-Killer in der Tradition von Jason Voorhees, der mir richtig gut gefallen hat, und von dem ich gerne mehr sehen möchte. Sein ikonisches Auftreten besteht nicht nur aus der gruseligen Schminke, sondern auch aus Pantomime und allgemein verstörenden Bewegungen.

TERRIFIER hat zwar seine Schwächen, ist sich dieser aber bewusst und konzentriert sich deshalb auf das, was er gut kann: Blutige Kills und ein fieser Clown. Daraus kann noch mehr werden. Deshalb bin ich jetzt sehr auf die Fortsetzung gespannt.

TERRIFIER is a simple minded oldschool butchery, which is all about presenting its kills in the most gory way. And these scenes can indeed show off! The saw was probably my favorite, and you get served here in decent frequency small and large pieces of nastiness, which are inflicted on human bodies. In the process, the film takes itself seriously and creates a certain amount of tension, but ultimately horror fans can just have a lot of fun with it because of the exaggeration on the one hand and the stupidity on the other.

Yes, TERRIFIER is stupid. Very stupid. The fact that you're ALWAYS punching or stabbing the killer once and then running away (preferably without the weapon) gets tiring at some point, even in a movie that obviously doesn't have high ambitions. In addition, due to the low budget, the whole thing doesn't look particularly good. So you have to be able to live with cutbacks. Most of the characters are also completely replaceable.

Except for Art. Art is actually, after a long time, a horror movie killer in the tradition of Jason Voorhees that I really liked and would love to see more of. His iconic appearance consists not only of the creepy makeup, but also of mime and disturbing movements in general.

TERRIFIER has its weaknesses, but it focuses on what it is good at: Bloody kills and a mean clown. There is room for more to be made of this. That's why I'm now loking forward to the sequel.
