Going to try and keep this as spoiler free as possible. This film was 100% unexpected in so many ways, lets start with the fact that this is Pixar's most mature film by far, more so than Inside Out or Wall-E which both are very much films that border on (or in my opinion with Inside Out flat out is) being adult films. This film is a meditative look on life and what makes us who we are that it…

Think back to 2nd grade, now 5th, now 12th, and now everything in-between. Think about the most memorable moment from them, that is what Boyhood feels like, the most memorable moments of a life for 12 years. In this case the life of Ellar Coltrane's Mason who, along with writer/director Richard Linklater's daughter Lorelei as is his sister Samantha, we watch grow-up over the course of the film. We see them in small, sometimes seemingly…

I now understand why people love this as a Christmas film. Sadly I didn't love this film and if it wasn't for some interesting plot elements and the fantastic acting from Rickman, this would be a lot lower of a rating. Ultimately while its a well made action film it still falls into lots of large action sequences that don't do much for me personally and are a large part of why this non-superhero/sci-fi/fantasy action films are not my cup of tea at the end of the day.

    Wonder Woman 1984

Yeah I'm not going to spend a ton of time on this one or do a full review really because I didn't enjoy this one at all. The first sequence of this film goes on way too long and the film just continually stays very slow moving. The ending is good but still has serious issues and getting there is a slog. What keeps this from being lower is that the action sequences and general technical elements are terrific, but overall this film is meh.

Even without Soul in December I would consider 2020 a good year for Pixar with this film. I've watched it three times now and each time get something new out of it. Films about brothers and their bond is so rare and it was great to see one from this beloved studio. It is however in the form of a fairly standard, at times predictable, and chezey D&D like fantasy adventure. The character arcs however easily make up for that…
