Jacob Cunningham’s review published on Letterboxd:
From the bottom of my heart, Paramount, fuck you.
Fuck you for not allowing me to experience this the way it was meant to be experienced.
My wi-fi is so bad that I just used all my phone data for the month to watch this. FUCKIN' WORTH IT.
This movie is certainly something. I was in awe while watching it. Some of the most incredible, mind-boggling visuals I've ever seen. There were also moments of genuine terror. I was audibly gasping and reacting throughout the movie. Natalie Portman is excellent, and the musical score is memorably chilling.
It's very much a movie that leaves you feeling "???????????????????".
I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just didn't quite leave me satisfied. I was in awe throughout the film, but it actually hasn't given me a ton to think about.
Also, the story uses a flashback framing device that did not service the film. It deflated the tension and felt a little like over-explaining.
It just feels like it's not as great as the sum of it's parts, but fuck, there are some incredible parts. Can't wait to watch it again.
